Pantry Update

Know anyone dealing with food insecurity?

We can help.

The Kaua’i North Shore Food Pantry is open on Saturdays, 3:30-4:30pm. Arrive earlier to sign in (Meral and Bill will help, and are shown below). There are plenty of options including fresh produce (only part of supply is shown in picture below), canned goods, etc. available to shoppers.

Also two Saturdays a month there are pet food days (the April 27 supply is shown, next is May 11), and drug store days (May 4 and May 18).

Please help us spread the word.

New Routines – Same Great Food – New Van

Well, we had a new refrigerator and freezer at the Parish Hall. However, they turned out to be noisier that we expected and disrupted other groups that use the building. So, we moved the new refrigerator and freezer to an off site location generously donated by a supporter of the food bank. Now we have a system to buy, transport, store, transport and deliver the food. A few more steps than in the past but it seems to be working well. Everyone has pitched in and once again we see our community pulling together to make things work! Mahalo to everyone for the extra effort and for your patience during this transition.
Great news on the transportation front! Thanks to the work of several people; board members, our grant writer, and our supporters, we have a new van. It is much larger so we don’t need 3 vehicles going to Lihue and Puhi every week to get the food to the parish hall. Look for the van – it will have the Food Pantry logo on both sides. We love it already!!
Last, we are, as always< grateful to our neighbors who bring fresh, usually organic produce to the pantry every week. Right now we have a lot of citrus but also beautiful greens, taro, ulu, and more! Your donations help make our pantry a truly special place!

Out With the Old In With the New!

Our old refrigerators and freezers were not big enough to hold the food we give away every week.

So we purchased new ones! They were delivered and installed Monday and are up and running.

We hope to store more food more easily. We are excited to start using them!!

Open This Saturday

We hope you all survived the non-hurricane and then the heavy rains that followed. The parish hall is dry and ready for the pantry to open its doors this Saturday (9/1) as usual. We look forward to seeing you!

Stormy Weather!

Aloha one and all! This Saturday, 8/25/2018, the Food Pantry will be closed. After much thought, it was agreed that our primary concern is the safety of our volunteers and shoppers. We want everyone to stay safe in the expected storm/hurricane. Please prepare and make good choices. We will be back next Saturday 9/1/2018. See you then!

Join us at the 40th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk!

We are very excited to announce that we will be participating in the 40th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Vidinha Soccer Field. This is a successful annual event that helps raise awareness for Hawaii’s nonprofit organizations – and we are proud to be included!

Click on the link below and sign up to walk with our KNSFP team at the Charity Walk event or simply donate to our organization! By donating directly through this link, KNSFP will receive Charity Walk “Points” – the more points we accumulate the more grant dollars we can receive through Charity Walk.

Your generous tax-deductible contribution will help us provide access to healthy, nutritious food to homeless and low-income individuals and families living on Kauai and allows us to meet our mission “To feed the underfed in our community to the best of our ability.”

Food, Fresh Produce, and Babies!

We offer food to people of all ages in our community.  This past Saturday we were excited to meet and welcome the two youngest shoppers at the Food Pantry. Here, Cathy Butler holds Zoe and Chloe, twins just 10 days old, while their mother shopped. It warmed our hearts to be part of their lives.  Congratulations to their parents!!

As usual, we offered a selection of canned and dry goods.  Our produce selection continues to include a selection of locally grown and organic fruits and vegetables.  Our neighbors and local growers generosity makes this possible so as always, a big Mahalo to them!

It was the 4th Saturday of the month so we offered cat and dog food as well as people food.

Next Saturday will be the 1st Saturday of the month which is a drugstore day.  On drugstore days, we offer personal hygiene items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, and toilet paper.

A reminder to visitors to our island: when you leave our island, we welcome donations of unopened goods you have purchased during your stay and will not be taking home with you.  To donate click on the Donate page on this website and call Cathy Butler. She will arrange a time and place to drop off your donation. And, she may give you a first hand account of  how special the new twin babies are!

What A Wonderful Week At The Food Pantry!!

This week at the Food Pantry was exceptional.

First, we have new tee shirts for our volunteers who are proudly displaying the Kauai North Shore Food Pantry logo.

Second, although we are sad about the passing of Ric Cox, a remarkable man who founded Aloha Angels and raised over two million dollars in 2 years to support Kauai schools and teachers, we were happy to receive a surprise luncheon.  Ric’s celebration of life was held in Kilauea as the food pantry volunteers were doing our usual Saturday set up. Michael Dexter-Smith called to ask if the volunteers and shoppers at the pantry would like lunch as there was more than enough food at the celebration of life.  He then brought the food, a delicious buffet, which was enjoyed by all.

Lastly, in the recent weeks our produce offerings have dwindled due to seasonal variations. We are happy to again have an abundance of fresh produce from the food bank and donated from our generous neighbors. We are proud to offer a selection of healthy and often organic produce. A big Mahalo to our neighbors who share their fruits and vegetables!
